A popular staple among many households today, olive oil is known for the number of health benefits it carries. While there are many different types of olive oil, most of them are high in monounsaturated fats, which lower the risk of heart disease. Some studies have also found that olive was more efficient in reducing high blood cholesterol levels as compared to other oils, which makes it one of the best choices for those suffering from cardiovascular conditions.
While there was a lot of commotion and debate over which oil is the best, a new study presented by the American Society for Nutrition’s Advances & Controversies in Clinical Nutrition found that the plant sterols present in corn oil are able to manage cholesterol levels in a better way as compared to that of extra virgin olive oil.
It was found that corn oil managed to lower cholesterol levels by 10.9% whereas extra virgin olive oil could lower cholesterol levels only by 3.5%.
It was also found that corn oil possessed four times a greater amount of plant sterols than olive oil, and around 40% more than canola oil, which makes it a clear winner.
